Psychological Care for Elite Athletes, Adults, & Couples
Dr. Susan Gamberg is a Nova Scotia-based registered psychologist with two decades of clinical experience across hospital, university, and community health settings. Educated at McGill University—where she also served as a faculty lecturer teaching graduate courses—Dr. Gamberg brings a rigorous scientific and academic foundation to her clinical practice. Following her relocation to Halifax, she established clinical affiliations with Dalhousie University’s Departments of Psychology & Neuroscience and Psychiatry, where she actively supervises students in psychotherapy and clinical research.
Dr. Gamberg holds specialized expertise in high-performance sports psychology, holding the prestigious International Olympic Committee Diploma in Mental Health in Elite Sport. She works closely with elite athletes and coaches to navigate competitive burnout, performance anxiety, athletic identity transitions, and post-injury psychological rehabilitation. Her clinical insight in this field is complemented by active research with the Maritime Eating & Appearance Lab (MEAL) and a provincial grant dedicated to implementing an eating disorder prevention program (Body Project) across Nova Scotia.
Beyond sports performance, Dr. Gamberg provides compassionate, integrative psychotherapy for adults, older adolescents, and couples facing complex clinical challenges. Her key areas of focus include:
Clinical Specialties: Treatment of eating disorders, emotional dysregulation, trauma (PTSD), mood and anxiety disorders, self-injury, identity development, and interpersonal concerns.
Integrative Modalities: Flexible application of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Prolonged Exposure, Compassion-Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.
Couples Therapy: Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) designed to foster secure, resilient relationships.
Multicultural Competency: Respectful, culturally inclusive care adapted to the unique context and identity of every client.
Enriched by her lived experience as an endurance athlete, Dr. Gamberg brings a grounded, realistic appreciation of the physical and mental loads required of high achievers.
